How to write your first AI prompt that actually works

The 10 golden rules of writing prompts that produce stunning results every time. From basic structure to advanced techniques.

Writing great AI prompts is part art, part science. Whether you're generating images, videos, or chatting with Obiy — the quality of your output depends on how well you communicate your vision.

1. Be specific, not vague

Instead of "a cat," try "a fluffy orange tabby cat sitting on a windowsill, golden hour sunlight, soft bokeh background." The more detail you provide, the better the AI understands your intent.

2. Include style references

Mention artistic styles, photographers, or visual aesthetics. "In the style of Studio Ghibli" or "cinematic lighting like Roger Deakins" gives the model a clear direction.

3. Specify the mood

Words like "serene," "dramatic," "moody," "playful," or "dark" drastically change the output. Don't leave the emotional tone to chance.

4. Use quality modifiers

Add terms like "8k," "ultra detailed," "professional photography," "masterpiece," or "award-winning" to push the model toward higher quality outputs.

5. Describe composition

Tell the AI where things should be. "Subject centered," "rule of thirds," "wide angle," "close-up portrait," or "bird's eye view" help frame the shot.

6. Set the lighting

"Golden hour," "studio lighting," "neon glow," "dramatic shadows," "soft diffused light" — lighting is everything in visual media.

7. Mention color palette

"Warm earth tones," "pastel colors," "monochromatic blue," or "vibrant neon" give the AI a color direction to follow.

8. Use negative prompts wisely

Tell the AI what you don't want: "no text," "no watermark," "no blurry," "no extra limbs." This helps avoid common artifacts.

9. Iterate and refine

Your first prompt rarely produces the perfect result. Generate, analyze, adjust, and regenerate. Each iteration gets you closer.

10. Study what works
